  Malcolm Wood co-founder  

An adventurer, Arcteryx & Vacheron Constantin ambassador and global entrepreneur, Malcolm Wood has founded many different businesses including the multi-award-winning Maximal Concepts. Acclaimed for its flagship, Mott 32 is considered by many as the best global luxury Chinese restaurant brand. Malcolm provides high-level mentorships to a select few per year using his unique approach to mindset.

 

A driver for change in the food and hospitality sector, Malcolm has co-founded Maximal Concepts, Kin Food Halls, Plastic Conscious, and other well-known businesses. He has personally opened over 40 different concepts in his 20-year career. The flagship, Mott 32, is one of the most awarded Chinese restaurant brands in the world, with locations including Hong Kong, Vegas, Vancouver, Toronto, Dubai, Singapore, Seoul, Cebu and Bangkok.

Recognised extensively for his work in sustainability & business through various awards including “Asia’s Most Influential” by Tatler, “Top 40 Hong Kong under 40’s” by Prestige, “Top Financier” by Money Asia, “Hong Kong Living Influencer Award” from Hong Kong Living, and the “Green Warrior Award” from Green is the New Black. Recently he was appointment as an ambassador for the United Nations ‘Mountain Heroes’ team to draw attention to emerging environmental issues.

Malcolm has been involved in multiple international productions including, A Plastic Ocean, one of the most awarded environmental documentaries, and described by Sir David Attenborough as “the most important film of our time”. His latest film, IMAX Presents: The Last Glaciers, tackles humanity's greatest challenge. Supported by renowned scientific institutions, NASA, MIT, INAIGEM, ICIMOD, Arctic Basecamp, GLACIOCLIM, Oxford University, and Climate Outreach, The Last Glaciers is the most comprehensive film ever produced about the relationships between climate change and glaciers.  

He has actively been involved in various foundations, including Plastic Oceans Foundation, Hong Kong Shark Foundation, Karma Flights, and Skeena Wild. He founded Meru Projects, a foundation and green fund to support other NGOs and research around technologies to create a better and greener environment, with a focus on environmental education.

Matt Reid is an entrepreneur and co-founder of Steelhead Group, Maximal Concepts and Disruption Labs, with long time business partner, Malcolm Wood. Steelhead Group is a symbiotic group of companies across four primary verticals; hospitality, environmentalism, wellness and content production. Each business draws from the other; all grounded in core areas of passion and disruptive ideas harnessing creativity, innovation, powerful content, branding, strategy and design. Everything is led by the desire to use business to create positive impacts and a triple bottom line mentality. 

Matt has been living in China and Hong Kong since 2004 . Although based in Asia his companies have a global focus, particularly through Disruption Labs with its proprietary nanotechnology lab in Austin, Texas, and the ongoing roll out of the international restaurant brand; Mott 32.

Matt co-founded Maximal Concepts and over the past decade has been at the forefront of pushing the boundaries of the Asia restaurant scene, particularly with the creation of Mott 32, the Group’s flagship restaurant. Mott 32 is redefining luxury Chinese cuisine and expanding rapidly with locations in Vancouver, Singapore, Las Vegas and Seoul and numerous more on the way. Designed in collaboration with Joyce Wang, Mott 32 has previously won World Interior of the Year Award (INSIDE Award).

Matt is a passionate environmental entrepreneur who enjoys inspiring change through content creation and filmmaking via his media production house, Far North Productions.  Matt sits of the charity board and is part of the team that produced the much acclaimed ‘A Plastic Ocean’, with Oscar winning producer Adam Leipzig and director Craig Leeson. A Plastic Ocean was one of the most awarded environmental documentaries in 2018, with Sir David Attenborough calling it “the most important film of our time”.   Matt is currently producing his next film; The Last Glaciers, which focuses on climate change and global warming awareness, with music by Above & Beyond, and will be launched in early 2021.

Through these projects, Matt’s awareness of environmental issues and his desire to find solutions led to Plastic Conscious. Structured similar to a B Corp, it was formed to help drive awareness and change in plastic usage via sourcing, supply chain and finance solutions working with major multinationals and innovative brands. Recently, Plastic Conscious partnered with sustainable paper products company, where it is offering its services to an exciting disruptors in the CPG space.

 

Matt is an Alumni of Bristol University, Undergraduate (MSc Political Science) and Kingston University (Masters Marketing). Matt also holds a Diploma in Spoken Mandarin from the Beijing Language and Culture University. Matt is highly committed to wellness, nutrition, travel, fitness and life balance.
